Barclays closed account

Hi
I have just received a letter saying that my business owed £3600 to Barclays. I had a business account and Barclays decided they no longer wanted to provide banking for us, with no reason or explanation given. So on the last day of the account we received a cheque for £3600 as a closing account balance. Barclays have since written to us, saying it was a mistake, this was 4 months ago and the account has been closed. Is there anything that they can do ? Do we have to pay it back ? Where do I stand legally ? After the way they treated us i dont see why I should help or cooperate .

Any help would be grateful

    I'll be gentle, yes sweetheart, you do have to pay it back.

    Not necessarilly all at once, seeing as it was their mistake.

    Ask them for a payment plan
    make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    What do your records say the balance should have been?

    Are you disputing Barclays's calculation of the closing balance on your account? If not, then you owe them the money.

    They can take you to court.

    You could prevaricate and complain and get some compensation for the inconvenience but, if Barclays's revised calculation of the closing balance is correct then you owe them the money.

    company still trading and the balance of the account is zero, it was sent with a letter saying this is your closing balance ?
