Earnings threshold for LHA

Can anyone help with this?

Single parent, 2 dependent children, full rate DLA mobility, currently on JSA, IS and HB. Would like to work but wondered how much they can earn before losing full HB? A4E are stressing them out completely and even though they aren't really fit enough to work, they are desperate to get off JSA!

First of all could you check what benefits your friend(?) is receiving?

As far as I know they cannot get JSA and IS.

Also, they should be getting Child Benefit, Child Tax Credit and Council Tax Benefit.

If they are on income based JSA and not contribution based JSA then they should be entitled to full HB and CTB.

    How old are the children?

If your friend is too ill to work have they applied for ESA?

    More info. please :)

Friend was getting IS before the changeover to JSA, maybe they lost that now. Children are 12&14. Child benefit and Council Tax Benefit, she has never mentioned CTC so I don't think she gets that. Income based JSA as has not worked for 14 years because of the children.

Doesn't think she would get ESA and doesn't want her disabilities on record as it were in case they prejudice getting a job.

Your friend will be receiving income based JSA, full rate CTB and HB (depending on her housing allowance for her needs)

She should also be receiving CTC so if she isn't then she should apply for this.

As regards her earnings before she loses all/some of her HB then she can put in various diiferent scenarios into the benefits calculator to see what happens to her benefits; http://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx

She needs only to be working 16 hours a week as a single parent to also be eligible for Working Tax credits.
