Porta 21 Cat Food

Options
Currently feeding my cats Applaws dry but Porta 21 Sensitive has popped up as an alternative - also grain free alternative...its lots cheaper than the applaws which tempts me. Anyone got any thoughts on this food?

I spotted that too, will be trying it when the Applaws runs out but he's got about 6kg to eat before then so might take a while! :rotfl:

with 3 greedy guts 6kg of Applaws wouldn't last long for us. Will check Jollyes this weekend to see if I can get a small bag to try before buying 20kg for zooplus!!

I give mine this. The only downside is they only do 1 flavour.
My cats went mental for it at first but they're not as bothered now. They do empty their bowls though so I'm assuming they like it.
It's a good price and their coats are lovely and soft so I'm happy with it.

I've never tried Applaws but Porta21 is very good. I decided (after reading these boards) to change from Hills Science Diet (bleurgh) and Whiskas (double-bleurgh) ...have you seen the list of so-called ingredients on the packs?...to better quality and predominantly meat/fish based food.

I bought some Bozita, some Porta21 (and some dried Orijen as snacks - they don't do wet) to see what they were like and if the cats liked them. I got them from Zooplus.co.uk. I liked how the ingredients for Bozita, Porta21 and Orijen are comprehensively listed on the site. They also display the cost per kg so it's easy to compare products.

Bozita went down an absolute storm even with the cat who's a picky eater, with Porta21 coming a close second.

Given that Bozita and Porta21 were on a par ingredients-wise and tastiness (decided by cats, not me!), I went with Bozita as it's a lot cheaper than Porta21. Orijen has now replaced Dreamies as an occasional snack. Zooplus give a discount with the first order, then further discount coupons. You also qualify for another discount coupon if you sign up for the newsletter, and you can buy a discount deal so that you get an automatic reduction on every order. Postage is free with orders over £19 and delivery is very quick IME - 2 days max, usually one day.

For comparison costs are as follows:

Hill Science Diet Wet: £5 - £7 per kg
    Whiskas Wet: £3.60 - £4.70 per kg
    Applaws: £7.90 - £10.20 per kg
    Porta21: £5.20 - £9.24 per kg
    Bozita: £2.30 - £2.50 per kg
Orijen dried: £6.50 -£14.98 per kg*

*seems dear but is very high quality. And compare with the Dreamies (which I think of as the cat equivalent of Pringles!) at £18.10 - £24.80 per kg

    Hope this helps.

PS: How on earth have the pet food industry in this coutry not been rumbled yet? The amount and quality of so-called meat they put in the their products is so poor!

mmm bozita has wheat so think will stick with the porta 21.

i too am shocked at the contents of even 'premium' cat foods - hence why we are on applaws and the cats eat better than we do!! however whatever i offer they seem to prefer the diy approach to finding food most of the time...which I suppose is as close to nature as you can get!!
