For us the return is a little more than 10%. As well as the FIT you have the export payment, and a saving on your electricity bill. The amount you save depends on how good you are at using the power at the time it is generated.....like using your washing machine, dishwasher etc when it is sunny.0

I did look at this when presented purely as an investment, that is you invest in a company that sticks them on roofs of (generally) housing association properties, the occupier gets the benefit of the electricity generated, you get a fixed x% return over three years, then choose either capital returned after three years (and no more payments from FIT) or sacrifice capital in favour of the other 22 years returns. I didn't go with it, and as soon as the FIT was dropped the investment wasn't viable any more so it was dropped. I "kind of" wish I'd done it, but no use now.0
