Post Barclaycard approval call saying application on hold

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone else has had this experience.

I've applied for the 1/2 price balance tranfer card from Barclays and got confirmation through via e-mail yesterday that it was approved. The e-mail said that it will be with me in the next 5 working days.
Today I had a call asking me to answer some questions. I asked if I could verify who was calling and the caller said I could call him back.

After holding a minute or so whilst he was searching for the number he asked me again to answer the questions (rather than give me any number).

I said that I'd already received verification and that my card was on it's way. He said that that more than 1 team deal with applications and that my application would be on hold until I answered the questions.
I then got the number (0800) 0684374. When I called back it seems to be the Fraud Detection (?) number.

What's going on?

    Not checked file this year.
I just think it's odd that he wouldn't give me a number for quite a while (it was only after asking for the 3 or 4th occassion).
Not lied on application - I've never had issues with getting cards.
Didn't have one for a while.
Only ever have 2 cards at any one time - one (when needed) just for balance transfer and another for the occasional purchase where we value the security of buying on card which gets cleared each month.

Will check credit file though. Thanks, Woo

Don't know if this helps, but i applied for a Barclaycard last year, it said it was accepted subject to checks, a day or 2 later i received a phonecall asking me to verify a few details, name d.o.b etc. I was told they call you on the number you supplied and do these checks to verify you are you and that it was you that applied for the card. It only took a minute. I then received the paperwork a few days later but ended up being declined, which i think will be due to having an old ccj.
  • I also had a phone call to verify details on my credit refence files from barclaycard after receiving an accepted email. It's to confirm that your not applying fraudulently in someone else's name
  • I had a call today from a withheld number, like a fool, I answered the three questions they asked, 1) Is one of the following your address (4 addresses read out)
    2) Are one of the following your partner (4 names read out)
    3) Do you know one of the following (4 names read out)

Although it did feel strange, I did get 08000684374 number to ring back when I asked although the man did seem put out that I asked for a contact number.

I rang it and they seemed to know a lot about my application etc, I then asked them some details that only Barclay's and I would know about my application which they got correct, with no prompting, still unsure I phoned another Barclay's number this afternoon and told them the saga, they redirected me to the applications dept who asked me exactly the same questions!!

So it does appear that I stressed over not a lot but better to be safe than sorry!!!
