Extra card = association??

Hi all,
Apologies is this is a silly question!
I want to open a bank account for joined purposes such as grocery shopping etc for me and my bf. However I don't really want our credit files linked or associated or whatever the correct term is!
Can I open a basic current account in my name and just get an extra card in his name or will this link us?
What would be the best option for this situation??
Thanks for help in advanced!!

I don't believe there is any way of getting a second card holder on any current account without it being a joint account.
Only credit cards allow additional card holders. That may be one way around your problem, but then it does cause issues with Aldi/Lidl etc that only take debit cards.
I know how annoying it is though, because I have the same problem!0 -
ok...i had thought of the cc option but do a fair portion of shopping at aldi so it wouldnt really be worthwhile!

Aldi and Lidl only take debit cards? I doubt it as it would violate any merchant agreement and violate the umbrella card agreement or whatever Visa and Mastercard are calling it now. Basically by displaying Visa and Mastercard logos you must accept all valid Visa and Mastercards. I imagine there's somewhere to complain if it's much of a problem.0 -

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/service/20867.htmAldi stores accept cash, Maestro, Delta, Solo and Electron card only. Visa and Master Card credit cards are accepted in Scottish and selected Welsh stores only. In line with many other retailers we no longer accept cheques in store.
Interesting. So like I said, they don't accept credit cards in my local (English) stores.0 -
Similarly for Lidl

It’s easy to pay by debit card in all our stores, meaning that you can buy everything you need without needing to worry about having the right amount of cash on you.
The quote above doesn't explicitly say no to credit cards, but the fact they specify debit cards tells you the answer.
Apparently in "some stores" they do accept credit cards. But again, certainly not any of my local ones.0 -

You could open a joint savings account with a debit card or you could add him as a third party to the account.0 -
Something like the Natwest First Reserve account? You could open a joint savings account with a debit card or you could add him as a third party to the account.

Yeah I noticed that
Asked them why it was due to the high charges
They even refused my Metro Bank DEBIT mastercard manager claiming all mastercards were CREDIT CARDS lol ;(0
