tv licence question

Not sure if this is the right thread but here goes.
In Feb this year my partner and I moved in together and of course we had to get a tv licence.
This is the 1st time I have have moved so its all new to me, so she sorted every thing out. any ways with the licence you have to pay double the price for the 1st 6 month then it reduces to half/ normal price.
we asked why this was for and the said you have to pay a year up front every one does.
what we cant work out is if your paying a year up front should you not have 6month to a year where you don't pay any thing as its like your owed an extras years service.
so does any one know why this is just seem like were losing out

You're not losing out. It's the same for everyone. Though I think their advertising is (or at least used to be) rather misleading.
The default option is that you pay for your licence in full for the year when you get it.
The other option is that you pay monthly. You need to get to a point, in this case, where you pay 6 months in advance and 6 months in arrears. That's where you're aiming for.
The first 6 months just get you to that point.0 -
right.... it was just very strange ways at least when it was explained to me lol.0

They should really get you to pay for your first licence in full and then charge you monthly from 6 months time, so in some ways you are getting a better deal.0

Sits back an waits for the usual pro/anti BBC protagonists to appear.
