Nationwide free travel insurance upgrade for children

I am travelling to France at the end of the month and my wife and i qualify for free travel insurance with Nationwide. I enquired as to the cost of including our 2 children (3 and 5) and was quoted £30. This seemed excessive since a quick search on mse quoted the best buy on the site for a couple as £36.54 and family as £40.60 so a small difference of £4 or so. I understand there may be an admin fee but £30 seems a lot. Can i get travel insurance for children only? All the sites seem to only include as part of a family quote? Can Nationwide be persuaded to be more realistic about the price charged? Would appreciate any advice or guidance, thanks.

Rather than children only you may well get better cover from a seperate policy for all of you. 'Free' products can be lacking in cover for items and you don't realise until it is time to claim.
  • thanks for your reply daveyjp.

i understand your point but the cover provided appears ok actually - they say it is rated 5 star by Defaqto and we only want a basic policy in case of basically a medical emergency.

a family annual policy will be about £40 and only £30 to upgrade which is cheaper but as i said i am concerned that this is a bit of a rip-off and wanted to see if i had an alternative (i do realise i could choose not to insure the children but this does seem a bit harsh).

    kind rgds, matt.
