Am i pricing fairly?

Since about 2 years ago I always took my children's clothes to the charity shop- now I sell them on eBay.

This is how I price:

If the item is in excellent condition and has hardly been worn- I sell it for 75% off what I paid.
If them is in good condition with plenty of wear left- I sell it for 50% of what I paid
If the item is a little worn, has a few unnoticeable pulls or marks- I sell it for 25% of what I paid.

Sometimes I sell bundles that I make up in condition- 75% price bracket, 50% price bracket, 25% bracket made up of 10 or so things.

I never charge postage- I send in high quality posting bags (work out at about 30p each) and always send recorded. Plus I wash, dry and iron them before posting.

I sold two dresses from the Next Spring-Summer 2012 collection, and the buyer has messaged me after not paying me for two days saying I was asking too much! both these dresses cost me £14 each, and I sold them both for £10.50 which I thought was reasonable as my DD had worn them once (she decided she didn't like them- bloody daughters!) I even had the bill from when they were brought (yes im sad) and offered to send a photograph of the bill..but no, all I got was cheek! She hasn't left any feedback though.

What do people think? Should I reconsider my prices? I don't want to give people a handout and the money I make from it goes on more clothes for the children.

If you are getting buyers then no problem, however knocking 25% off the new retail price for second hand items (no one knows how many times they have been worn) is not really a good deal. After all most stores reduce items by that or more when they have a sale of new items.

I'd have thought that for items in very good condition you would expect an average of about a third of the retail price, then again it would depend on the items. Jackets, for example, would probably get a better percentage rate than shoes.

If you were asking too much then why did thay buy......some idiots about!

As to your question, well yes I think you are pricing too high and as you would have normally just given away, why not start low auction style and see what happens.....it only takes 2 people to want it to start a bidding war.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

IMO you can charge whatever you like for your items, as long as you're not describing them incorrectly or misleading people then it's up to them if they want to pay what you are asking. If you're asking too much, then you wont get buyers, it depends how much you want to get rid of your items. Personally I think everyone just wants something for nothing on Ebay now, and some things I'd rather put in the charity shop than go to the bother of selling it for 99p and making nothing.

I don't understand why they bought something if they thought you were asking too much for it, unless it wasn't as described or in as good condition as they'd hoped, in which case why didn't they ask you for a refund? As luvvlyjubbly said, some idiots about.

Charging a price is not the same as selling for a price. People will only pay what they feel they are worth. If they are selling, then you are charging the right price.
  • If they have not paid wait the time for cancelling it all and reclaim any fees. Move on re list it and sell it to somebody who does want to pay this amount. Forget about current buyer.
  • There seems to be some kind of cult status surrounding Next clothing and their 'collections' and I have sold 2nd hand Next kids items in the past which have gone for more than I paid new!
My 4 kids mainly wear Next and I find that I get about 30% back on the RRP on Ebay, sometimes more!
I always start my auctions at 99p, sit back and enjoy the bidding!

I think your prices are too high, i would want second hand clothes at well below half price, they are second hand after all.!! when i sold anything second hand, i just started it at 99p.

I think that if the buyer was happy to pay the price in the first place and you have described the item accurately then its their problem. People like to complain for the sake of complaining ad want things handed out for free!!
Paying it all off in 2017:
    Finance 1- [STRIKE]115[/STRIKE] Paid Jan 2017
    Finance 2- 335
    CC - [STRIKE]2000[/STRIKE]1800
    OD 1 - [STRIKE]2200[/STRIKE] 1850
    OD 2 - 2500

    That's just bonkers!

Personally, I would never pay 75% of the original price for used (worn) clothes. I might for new without tags, but not worn.
But, if people are prepared to pay it and you're getting sales, carry on. :)
