You can only refer your complaint to the Ombudsman after you have given the Bank a proper chance (eight weeks) to consider your complaint along with any supporting evidence you have. You cannot refer your complaint because you think they are too "incompetent". Only after the Bank have rejected your complaint with a "full and final" response, do you have access to the Ombudsman. Since an Ombudsman referral currently takes in excess of eighteen months, I'd be giving the Bank's competence another chance if I were you...I only have that sole statement and feel that I might have to take them to the ombudsman as I don't think that they will be competent enough in dealing with the claim!
You send copies of any evidence for exactly that reason. You do not need to send them originals! If you had sent them a copy of your statement in the first place, then your complaint would already now be well advanced.I am glad I did not send it because what if the package containing the statement got lost in the post?0
