Making a will

Not sure if this was the best place to post, but was after as bit of advice re writing a will.
I'm 21 and have a 2 year old son, and as disturbing as it is to think I will be leaving him any time soon I have to be realistic!
I don't have the first clue about getting a will written up, the costs involved or whether or not I even need one! My parents both did theirs many years ago and are unsure themselves.
If anyone can offer some info it would be greatly appreciated

You can do a simple will using a service like Law Pack, very cheaply, and it's fine. However, if you are wanting to ensure your son's future, it is a good idea to approach a solicitor. I did, when I had young children - this stated who was to care for them should I & their dad die, and made some financial arrangements (even if you have no money or insurance policies, it's still a good idea to state who you think should care for your son).
You can use solicitors on line, but when children are involved, I think you are best to use yell.com and ring around. You get an idea of how efficient & friendly they sound, and should all be able to give you a guide price.
Good luck!0 -
Have a look on the willaid website. It will give you an idea of what things you need to consider for a will, so you're prepared before you go to the solicitor.0

The important thing is to get it down in writing who would get guardianship of your child - otherwise they will end up in the hands of social services.0

If your parents did theirs years ago, get them to revise them.
Presumably, their children were "children" then as apposed to young adults with children of their own.0
