ESA New Claim

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before. I have searched but couldnt find too much. Maybe I looked incorrectly.

I started a new claim for ESA on the 27th July after recieving a sick note for 4 weeks from my GP and new medication.
I called the job centre number the same day and they took lots of details. I was told I have applied for income based ESA.

Today I recieved the information I had given them to read through to ensure there were no mistakes and a freepost envelope to send my sick note to them.

What happens now roughly?

What are the time scales for payments etc?

I need to fill out a new form for my legal aid confirming I am recieving it, but I am presuming I am not entitled to it until they recieve my sick note and make a decision?

Thanks.

Correct, you need to return the note.
I would definitely not use the freepost envelope, but send it and all correspondance with some tracked mail.

Intial payment is quite rapid after you send the note in.
In my case, it was around a week.
Then you in around 13 weeks will likely get assessed at an interview as to your illness, which will determine which group (support or work-related group) you are put in.
  • I posted my sick note today.. ive just realised i havent filled the back in.

    Such an idiot. :(
