Car Insurance Cancelled.

Hello all, not sure if this is in the correct place.

Basically I have just had an insurance policy canccelled, the reason is:

- Undisclosed conviction (I did forget to mention on the phone but edited on the document before signing and sending back, I then spoke to them on the phone and explained. They said this was fine.

I got a letter 2 months later saying that my insurance will be cancelled in 7 days.

When I challeged them they said it was because of the reason mentioned above but they also mentioned the reason was because i do not have a garage (I have pictures and floorplans of my Garage which is within my house).

For what i can see, i do not understand if there was a problem with my insurance why didnt they mention at the start. I now have to declare i have had an insurance policy cancceled which puts it up by 1000 pound.

Hope someone can help

Joe.

  • They did not mention it at the start because you withheld a material fact from your insurance application (an unspent conviction).

Unfortunately adding this detail in later means that the insurance company may not want to insure you, which appears to be the case.

I am not sure what help you are looking for but it all seems straight-forward to me. The garage issue may just be a red-herring.

If you have a note of the date/time of this call, and the person you spoke to, they'll probably have a recording of the call that can be traced. It sounds to me like they have accepted to insure you then changed their minds. Looks like a breach of contract (by them) from where I sit.
