  • Warrington worth a look, too...

Another vote for Warrington - nice villages, great for motorways, decent shopping. Some excellent schools :)

I think some areas of Stockport - Hazel Grove, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme and Gatley tick the boxes

Yep, I'd take this advice here. There are really good transport links especially in Hazel Grove. You have a train station which provides relatively fast travel into Stockport and Manchester (and Buxton if you need to be there) and you also have the 192 from Hazel Grove to Manchester and goes past Stepping Hill hospital too.

You also have a huge Sainsburys not too far for shopping.

But the A6 into manchester can be a nightmare at peak times.
Although I agree the area is good.

As stated already the motorway network round manchester is good (unless there's an accident) so you can live quite far out but still be within easy reach.

Once off the motorways though travel into manchester centre can be slow at peak times and parking quite expensive so somewhere with a good train link may be better.

Your problem will probably be that there is too much choice within an hour of the airport, as it is easily reachable from cheshire, derbyshire, lancashire, merseyside and even north wales, probably best to rent for a while and explore the area more.

I have lived all over the area and it all depends on how busy a place you want. Wilmslow and Alderley Edge are very expensive! The towns over the Yorkshire border eg Wakefield are much cheaper and more friendly and close to open country side. You also have access to Leeds/Bradford airport as well as Manchester Airport. M62 and M1 Good luck with the move
