My wife got a job offer that means we have started looking into relocating from NI to the Northwest of England.

I work from home full time in IT, so am pretty flexible in wherever I we move. But my wife will have to go into the Manchester office once a week and regularly have to fly out of Manchester Airport.

So we decided that we would want to move somewhere with reasonable priced housing within an hour of Manchester Airport.

We have a Baby and a Toddler, so we are looking for the following:

- place with reasonable house prices (looking at 4BR houses with some garden)
- a place where we can do our basic shopping locally (i.e. not completely remote)
- good primary schools
- good transport links into Manchester (we have 2 cars)

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Regards,
dsab

This small towns ticks all your boxes.
Junction 17 onto the M6 so handy for airport, Liverpool and Manchester city centres, plus Birmingham. Good schools, couple of supermarkets, small local shops, loads of 4BR houses, good restaurants, takeaways and nice places for a drink.
  • I think some areas of Stockport - Hazel Grove, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme and Gatley tick the boxes
  • I live in Altrincham which is handy, also Northwich is handy for the motorway networks, also Cheadle/Gatley as mentioned by StockportGerbil.

  • Winsford is a cheaper place to live in Cheshire. You get more house for your money, feel like you're in the countryside but have adequate shops.I don't know about schools as I don't have children. It takes at most 45 mins to get to Manchester airport & the same for Liverpool airport.

Wilmslow, Wilmslow every time. I lived there until I was 17 and then we moved south. However, as a child growing up there it was great, we had Alderley Edge on our doorstep - read the Weirdstone of Brisingamen. We had the Carrs, Lindow common. So many places.

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

    Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz
  • Newton-le-Willows - slap bang in the middle of Liverpool and Manchester. M62, M6 and East Lancs right on the doorstep. Approx 27 miles from Manchester Airport. Low housing costs and low crime rate. Old market town.
  • On Rightmove it gives you an idea of housing prices.

Brand new 4 bed home in Newon-le-Willows £239,950.00
