Sanctions for missing A4E meeting?

My husband has been placed in the WRAG and subsequently had to go to the jobcentre who passed him on to A4E. The lady at the jobcentre told us to apply to be moved to the support group as it was obvious that my husband has too many problems to look for work, but this takes time. Meanwhile we missed the first interview because of a mistake with the date, the man from A4E phoned and rearranged it and said there would be no comeback about it as it was an honest mistake. Had a letter from dwp, asking why he never went, wrote back and explained then attended interview at A4E last week. The man there was very nice and also couldn't understand why my husband was being made to go through their process, however as he is 'on their books' for now we made another appointment for September. This week we seem to be around £55 short on the ESA payment, is this because of missing the first interview?

Thanks for the reply, it does seem a bit harsh to do this for a 'first offence' so to speak, but then the whole system is harsh so I suppose it makes sense from that point of view.

If the DWP have decided to sanction your husband then the decision has to be notified to you in writing and is appealable. The normal sanction is 50% of the WRAG component for the first four weeks and 100% thereafter, attending a WFI should remove the sanction.
