Query company bought out?

Please see a letter I sent in as part one to see if I could get some compensation. It is followed by there reply! am I stuffed or can I do anything?

"Dear Sir/Madam,

I wish to complain about LGE-GRP207TUJA - F/Freezer American 5.83/12.22cf Silver
I bought from you on10 Aug 2007. I have had a broken refreshment centre door for the last 12 months.
I appreciate it is a long time ago but I have since discovered it is a design fault. There are numerous forums on the internet stating how the handle on the door splits in half.

I believe as it is a design error I should not have to pay for a new door. The doors cost over £100 which is a lot for me to pay when it is a design error. I have been told by LG to contact the company I bought it from.

Hence my email to you today just looking for you observations and comments"

This is the reply from Empiredirect

Thank you for your email.

I am sorry to learn you have experienced an issue with your fridge freezer, I can appreciate the disappointment this must be causing.

In 2009, Empire Direct went into liquidation. After this Richer Sounds purchased the Empire Direct Website but not the historic customer base. We then agreed with Richer Sounds to sell kitchen appliances under the Empire Direct name, unfortunately we do not have any details from previous customers. I am sorry that I am unable to assist you further.

I hope that you are able to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience that has been caused.

If we can be of any further assistance please contact us on 0333 900 0064 or by replying to customerservices@empiredirect.co.uk. Our phone lines are open seven days a week, from 8am until 10pm. You can also contact Richer Sounds on 0333 900 0094.

  • It's 5 years old and internet forums are not compelling evidence of a design floor.

I think you're just going to have to suck this one up I am afraid.

Richer Sounds didn't buy the liability of the old Empire Direct company. You can talk to the administarators of the old company but you will be so far down the pecking order the payout probably wouldn't cover the cost of a postage stamp.
