Best thing is, she's already been investigated once - at the pub where she now *ahem* 'doesn't' work. When she started all her claims etc off, she declared she was working behind the bar, but not the cleaning, cos she thought the landlord/manager only put part of it through the books. He put all of it through so she was £5k out on her tax form. She managed to wheedle her way out of that one. However, I also told them that, although I'm sure they would have found that out. Now she's deffo being paid cash in hand - hopefully man standing behind tree with camera or whatever they do, soon.

Magoogy, I'll try and find out what charity she got this stuff from - don't know if it's only for children, but worth a look.

Sorry it's a bit off topic and long-winded - just had to get it off my chest. Hope she doesn't use this site ... :(

Scout I'd like to say you'll come off best in the end but I've come to realise the world doesn't work like that.
We all know people like that and the hell of it is they have better lives than the rest of us who are doing the decent thing.

I have to admit that I 'bubbled up' a friend of mine for benefit/tax fraud. This was only a week or so ago so nothing's happened yet. I felt really guilty but this is the simplified story:

Friend has 2 kids, 6 and 4. Younger has mild/moderate autism, elder has behavioural problems (entirely due to diet/lack of discipline etc) but she's managed to get him diagnosed with aspergers. Due to this, she has:

disabled parking badge (Nothing wrong with child's ability to walk!)
Uses wheelchair type buggy (makes parking badge look good)
    Disabled bay outside house
Gets carers and mid level DLA - trying for highest level DLA
Trying to get DLA for elder child
Trying to get Elder child statemented so can move him to special school - gets free taxi to and from school then.
Got charity to pay for new car seat/repairs etc to house
Gets lots of tax credit etc.
Got hubby's firm to reduce his salary so she can keep top benefits (he gets lots of cash in hand/TOIL to make up difference)
She works cash in hand at local pub - £300 + per month
She runs these evening parties selling stuff - declares some of this.

All in all we reckon they are bringing in £2-3K per month! She's fleeced a charity cos they could have given to a real deserving family. She spends her day time now, 'doing lunch', having beauty treatments. She also brags about all this. Oh, she also feeds her kids coke/smarties/monster munch 30 mins before they see the doctors so they are off their heads and thinks this is OK.

My other friends and I are on much reduced incomes, but are honest and try to do the best for ourr kids, helping with any special needs, not hindering. They don't know I've contacted the benefits office about this - we keep saying to each other that one day she will get her come-uppance. Hopefully one day soon.

What exactly is YOUR problem scout?

From what you've said they aren't doing anything illegal!!

Is it sour grapes because you THINK that somehow things are easy for them?

Why do you call them a friend when you are no friend of theirs.

You make lots of guesses at their situation and are so bitter and twisted about it that you've even had a guess at their income - which is none of your business!

What makes you think they aren't doing the best for their kids?

Why do you you just refer to the mother and not the father?

What do you know about their conditions really?

Are you saying doctors have mis-diagnosed?

It's nice for some isn't it? My son does have Aspergers, unfortunately because of his behaviour we didn't mix with other people at all so no one knew him well enough to countersign the DLA application form.

Now we have worked so hard with him helping him understand the way the world works and what behaviour is expected from him that no one who meets him believes he has AS at all.

    We just can't win :(

    moggins,

That's a shame, keep trying though, surely your doctor or other specialists can sign the DLA form? What about relatives? If you need any support, why not post on the Benefits board?

good on you scout - she deserved reporting - but, more than likely she will weed her way out of it....
I don't see that you can comment on this anonymous woman - scout might be misjudging this.
i honestly cannot understand how people get stuff free....my hubby is disabled and can hardly walk (not at all without crutches) - he cannot bend and simple things like dressing himself i have to do for him - but, looking at him you cannot really tell how ill he is - you have to live with him 24/7 to realise this....my point being - i can get nothing!!! we only get low mobility, etc for him - he needs to be 95% disabled before you get middle/high....i have appealed and better appealed - no joy!!!

MY MAIN THING THOUGH IS; we need outside lights, because he is stuck indoors mainly at night - we have 6 steps down to our door and cannot see at night - i have bought some outdoor lights, but, dont know anyone to fix them up for me - i thought occupational therapy would do it, but, no joy there - so, how the hell do people get stuff? our faces obviously dont fit....i cannot afford to pay a professional, so they are stuck in the cupboard and hubby doesnt go out at night.....

    magoogy,

Have a word with the Citizens Advice Bureau about this, it does sound like your husband should be entitled to some DLA care element if he doesn't get it (you only mentioned mobility). CAB can help you fill the forms in and also help if it goes to appeal. Have a look on FAQ's on Benefits board where Ted and others have put useful links & info re DLA and Carers.

Re the lights you need putting up, CAB will be able to tell you of any volutary groups or whatever in your area that might put them up for you for nothing. Is there a disabled centre or anything like that as they may be able to help?

You're really picking on her aren't you? Why shouldn't she be earning money, her husband's working you mention too.

Is your problem that she married him and not you?

Who says they have "better lives than the rest of us"? I would think it's extremely hard work looking after children with a disability - it's hard enough looking after ones that haven't.

I'm really annoyed, the girl who lives in the flat next to me got caught with her boyfriend living with her (he has been for 1yr+) and she was claiming IS and he was earning £200+ a week. She keeps moaning how she will have to get a job now cos they cant afford to live on his wages blah blah blah yet the day after the fraud people came to see her she bought a new sofa on credit that she has to pay off £160 a month!!!

It's a pity that this really annoys you, it seems that people on this site find benefit fraud worse than murder, armed robbery, burglary, (in fact the list is endless) because people post about benefit fraud on here more than any other corruption, deceipt, crime. :(

but Fran, this site is about money saving. It's obvious much more people will moan about taxes being squandered on fraudulent benefit than moan about murderers. It's not vigilanteexpert.com after all.

By your argument, we shouldn't vent about train delays, c**p call centres, cash machine fees because murders go on. Let's deregulate everything and concentrate on preventing the serious crimes.

I don't understand how that you don't understand people getting angry when others claim things fraudulently that they are paying for with their taxes.
  • Fran, I agree that people are making judgements about things that they don't know all the details on, but no-one is claiming Benefit fraud is worse than the things you mention. It is annoying when someone deceitfully lives off others taxes, because it not only profits from workers taxes, it eats up benefits for genuine deserving claimants.

I'm sure everyone on here would be even more annoyed it neighbours and "friends" were going round stabbing and murdering, but it just happens that they are doing something else illegal, if less severe!
