Mondeo not smooth acceleration

I'm new. Hello
I have a Mondeo that I've had for a few months. Just recently the orange engine light has come on and when accelerating the engine irregularly has spurts.
It feels almost like contaminated fuel, like it's burning at different rates.
I have it booked in to a garage for Tuesday but wondered if anyone knew what it might be?
It is also starting to use more oil than usual?
Any ideas much appreciated

Sorry, just realised that I should add that it's a Duratech 1.8 petrol 02 model.0

You could have bought a £20 or less code reader and read the fault code yourself.
How much oil does it burn? The 1.8's seem rather prone to that. Not sure why when the 2L petrol is probably the most reliable engine in the range.
Coil pack. most likely. Gummed up EGR possible. Fouled sparkplugs maybe.
Without a fault code it could be a lot of things.
Beware garages that only replace what the code reader says though. And not think why are we getting that code.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks, I'll get a code reader ordered then. By a lot of Oil I mean at least a litre a week (200 miles) :eek:0

That's what it was on my 03 1.8 petrol Mondeo last year with the same symptoms.forgotmyname wrote: »Coil pack. most likely.0 -
Crikey! Mine never used a drop between services in 9 years/101K miles.GoldDay2012 wrote: »By a lot of Oil I mean at least a litre a week (200 miles) :eek:0 -
a litre a weeks is wrong!!!! something is very wrong there. in one month you can lose the whole lot and fubar the engine completely.
i suggest you have a sniff test done! and a compression test.
by a few months how many months are we talking since purchase and was it a tradesman you got it from or private, because if its under 6 months and discovered engine i knackered id be taking it back to the supplyer (if carsales bought)0 -
1.8's are prone to the oil rings sticking or wearing.
Compression test is usually OK, As those rings work fine, Its the oil control rings.
So are the plugs sooted up or wet with oil?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
