Budget revamp for bedroom

I have a little room which has, until recently, been dominated by a huge wardrobe I didn't really need but which I had taken from my old house. Anyway, the room was used as a guest room really, with a single bed and a little table by the side. My son dismantled and took away the wardrobe for his new house.

Great! Now I could start from scratch - it was already decorated in plain white paint throughout, so a blank canvas. I have been trying to encourage my 3 year old grandson to stay the night be he has been reluctant, though he will sleep there during the day. I wanted a child-friendly theme.

I had a small budget but I have, in the end, spent only £30 as I have recycled existing stuff from elsewhere. A while ago I bought some Laura Ashley curtains (nautical stripes) from Ebay so I used those as a starting point. I got a lovely boy's duvet cover in similar colours in their sale, for £13.50. I bought some nice block stripe towels from TK Max (£7.98), a blue gingham lampshade from the LA sale for £4.80. I painted an old bedside table in a lovely shade of blue which I already had in the shed.

I have a travel cot up at the foot of the single bed for the 1yr old who visits often and has an afternoon sleep. It is already blue and white. I wanted to buy some pillowslips with red and white stripe for my spare pillows (used to soften the fall of the 3 year old as he falls out of the bed). I remembered I had (from my more affluent, working days) some lovely wide striped red and white sheets so I cut one up and ran up four pillowslips and two small cushion covers to put on the child's basket chair I already have.

I made a tug boat collage picture for the wall and used some bunting I had bought some time ago for the shed (playhouse).

The children haven't seen it yet but I find I am spending a lot of time just sitting in the room, it is so cheerful.

So, with the rest of the budget, I am going to treat myself and my husband to a pizza and a glass of wine or two.
