day trips to luxor from sharm

hi,
has anyone done a day trip to luxor to see pyramids etc from sharm el sheikh. Is it best to fly there or by coach? where is the cheapest place to book it ?
Is it even worth doing the trip?

Thanks.

the pryamids are not in Luxor. Luxor is home to Vally of the Kings and Queens, Karnac and Luxor temples etc, you can do day trips but it's not worth it, you need to stay overnight to get some of the history in, you can easily spend half a day just at Karnac temple

If you do day trips by bus from Sharm to Cairo to see the pyramids, long way but the trips are well organised

you can Bus it or Fly it. Ive flown it before, my parents Bused it.

To be honest. Luxor is better than Cairo. pyramids are over rated.

I'm due to visit sharm in June and would also be interested in your views on trips to pyramids ect as i have a 9 yr old son who is currently studying ancient egyptians at school.

Luxor has a lot more in a smaller area than Cairo, there is Karnac temple (very large, very impressive) then Luxor temple which is right in the heart of the town - Karnak is about 2 miles out, then if you go across the nile to the west back you can go to the valley of the kings, Queens, Nobels, you can see the Collosus of Menemon.

There is also a small museum there.

The organised tours are very good to the west bank and usually take half a day, you can do it by yourself but given that you are coming from Sharm I don't know what they have on offer, you may be best just to get yourselves to Luxor, plan a stay overnight and take a tour to the west bank from there, the rest you can do by yourselves, you don't need a tour to the temples.

It's a shame you are not going to Luxor rather than Sharm if you want to see sites
