Removing washing machine hoses

My new washing machine arrives this afternoon so I got up early to disconnect the old one and put it outside for collection. However I find that there is no tap on the hot water inlet hose so I have no way of stopping the water while I pull the old machine out. If I start to unscrew it warm water comes out (I was hoping it would just be a small bit that might have been standing in the pipe but as it's warm, obviously not as the machine hasn't been used in months)
There's a nice little blue tap on the cold fill which works fine. Other than draining the hot water system down completely and not refilling it until the new machine is in situ, is there any other solution to this? The new machine is cold fill only. I can't get at the machine end of the hoses without pulling it out further which I can't do while the hose is connected.
I can't pop out and buy anything as the nearest town is 8 miles away and just my luck, the Argos van will turn up while I'm out. I'm wondering if there's a way of removing the cold tap and using it to turn the warm one off maybe? Presumably it's not needed anyway for the new machine so can stay off.
Thanks for any thoughts. This should have been so simple!!!

Without seeing it, it's hard to say. Somewhere on the hotwater system either in the airing cupboard or near the boiler there should be a hotwater shut off tap. If there is close it and then when you get to town later buy a part to close the hot water off at the washing machine end. Itr's best to have taps on the cold feed anyway in case it needs to be removed at any time or there is a leak in the machine.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Fold the hot water hose over and tie it off. Do this at the last minute and any leakage should be kept to a minimum. Untie once connected to new machine.
If that doesn't work run all the hot taps to ease the pressure and again work fast. (messy)
Are you sure your new machine has a hot inlet most new machines don't? If not get a plumber round to add a shut off valve.0 -
Thanks both for those ideas. It never occurred to me that both hoses might not be there but of course that's bound to be so. I've actually managed to remove the blue tap and put it onto the hot pipe and turned it off so now both are disconnected - Yay (as my granddaughter would say!) It's really fiddly and accessed through a small hole in the back of a unit. Terrified of dropping behind unit it as I'd have no option but to go into town then.
Will put it back onto the cold fill later but at least it means I can get the old machine out now - a bit backbreaking but still!! It's half way out and I dread to think what's behind after being in situ for nigh on 12 years.
Better get dressed now as the sight of an old spanner-wielding granny in nightie might just be too much for Argos men!!
Thanks v much for the ideas - if mine doesn't work I'll be back!0
