Selling An Old Laptop

I have had this laptop nearly 3 years and I think it's time I got a new one. I am thinking of selling this one. It's a Sony Vaio something or the other, I don't have the box with me right now.

However, the battery needs replacing. It works fine and there are no program or software issues. There is a slight mishap with the left button under the scrolly thing, it seems to have sunk in a bit, so I have to press really hard for it to click.

Would I be better off getting a new Sony battery and getting the left button fixed before I sell it, or just sell it as it is and someone might be able to use the rest of it as working parts. Obviously, I will have to find out how much a Sony battery/getting the left button fixed, but I was just wondering what you guys thought as there are shed loads of you on here that have oodles and oodles of knowledge like Soolin, Crowqueen and various others who normally are super duper helpful and lovely :D:D:D.

i tend to under sell my goods, so would sell it on ebay as 'for spares or repairs' and say that it needs a new battery and it is old so is slowing down etc.

Don't sell it as 'working' even if you think it is just the battery in case there is somehting more serious. I think it you buy a new branded battery then you won't get that much more for it as you will if you sell it as it is.

I sold a laptop with a faulty screen a couple of years ago as 'spares or repair' and got £120 for it, I was pleased with that and the buyer, judging by the items he was selling, took it to pieces and sold the parts separately which I couldn't have done anyway.
Remember to clean the hard drive and restore it back to its factory settings to be on the safe side though.

How clean is a clean hard drive?

I have software that can recover data from hard drives that have been formatted.

You want something that totally fills the drive with junk then erases it again.
