Can I ask about shares?

I have done a search of this forum and can't find the answer so i hope someone will be able to point me in the right direction.
I have got 50 shares in the Abbey (now Santander) which I want to sell. It's such a small amount that I may as well get rid of them.
But how to sell? It's such a small amount so I don't want to lose it all in commission.
Also - I read somewhere that if you were an Abbey shareholder at the time of the takeover you got some extra shares. I didn't hear a thing about it so this it correct?
Thanks for your help

For the answer to your second question you might find out by researching the articles written at the time on places like the Financial Times or enter
Abbey+Bank of Santander in Google and see what you find. As to selling the shares you will just need to find the cheapest broker on line. You can probably sell them for £10 I would have thought. Hoodless Brennan do them for £7.50 but I remember reading something about an annual fee. Also try Halifax share dealing. Usually, in these takeover arrangements there is a free or very cheap way to sell your shares unless it's too late, have a look at the paperwork if you still have it.0 -
Take a look at http://www.share.co.uk/webp/cert.htm0
