Keyboard problem - Help required, please

Hi,

I have been helping my mum set up her new pc tonight. All devices loaded easily and things were going well until I tried to set up her email account. I have discovered that I am unable to make a @ sign with the keyboard. When I try to use the appropiate key I get this " instead.

Thinking it was a faulty keyboard I changed back to her old keyboard which has been working fine. To my horror the same thing is happening.
Both keyboards are working fine on lower case and capitals.

I'm sure it is something simple but I do not know how to correct the problem, any help would be welcome.

Go to the control panel, open regional and language settings and make sure it is set for English (british). It may be set for US at the moment.

I went over to mum's this afternoon, followed your instruction and hey presto everything works.

Thanks for this! I've had this problem with my keyboard for a while but have got used to it.

All changed back now.
