Anyone know a quickish way to sell an antique chest online?

Well,with online advert anyway!

I have an antique, carved,Chinese camphor wood chest that I want to go asap before I move-love it to bits but it doesn't fit with my decor and other furniture so would rather it went elsewhere to be appreciated.

Due to constraints with my autistic son I can't have many people coming and going and we're in the middle of packing up the house, clearing stuff out and packing for holiday lol

Did,daftly, try a facebook page for quality wooden furniture (there are people who restore on there occasionally) and all I've had is people saying how much they'd love it then offering me between £10 and £15:eek::rotfl: while paying the same for mdf end tables on other selling pages!

Any ideas?

It's going to be difficult to sell something like that by post or by courier - realistically, it will need someone to collect it.

I would use Gumtree or a classified ad site, or even a shop window ad myself. eBay has too many issues with Paypal and you are probably paying unnecessarily for a worldwide audience when there will be a more pool of people.

Or you could get a dealer to look at it and take it off you. Many towns, particularly those in rich areas, have good antique shops (locally I'd go looking in Henley or Windsor rather than Reading, for instance) or dealerships. You might less for it but they would take it off your hands quicker than waiting for a buyer on eBay.

Thanks.I'll have to see what dealers there are here (Plymouth,so not many). We do have an auction house and my other one made me good money, should've sent this one at the same time but was tempted to have it restored first (has a small crack).

    Shall go hunting!

Can't complain though,I did buy them from someone who'd cleared out their grans house and were taking everything to a furniture recycling place-they only wanted £30 LOL

I second that- it is also worth trying more than one auction house as they do differ in what they can sell depending on their clients

With something large and heavy in the antiques area, I've found you often get very different levels of interest from different traders.

I've also found it best to take a few photos and email or print and show the dealers/auctioneers what is on offer. Then at least you can dismiss those who definitely aren't interested.

I dropped some stuff off at an auction house yesterday, the auction is next Thrsday and if it sells I will have my cheque the Thursday after.

I can't see anything being much quicker than that unless you drop the price to almost give it away and try local free ads again.

It's just bad timing really as the auction house is closed from today until 10th (on holiday then) and next auction seems to be 26th.Apparently there is another one aswell,so will check, but otherwise I'll have to try and get it there while moving (not an easy task with no help or transport). It can be done though and worth it :)
