this ^^ this is where tribuanls are likely to succeed, because you can challenge the qualifacation of the examiner.

a doctor wouldnt send you to a neurosurgeon if you needed a knee replacement, optician would send you to hospital for a wisp to be looked at.

same with ATOS, how can a full honest and complete report be made by someone who has no nowladge of the condition presented before them?

I know realistically they don't have enough people or time to match up everyone on a case by case basis (in an ideal world they would) but i do think they should at least use some common sense when deciding who asesses who!

what really winds me up is i put a report in from GP and also a consultant at the hospital what happened.
The DWP and ATOS both said they dont read them as it isnt relevat to your case.who knows more about your medical problems than your medical professionals who see you regularly?

They may not even realise you are having a panic attack, I suffer greatly from anxiety - I always force myself to do stuff in the hope that if I keep feeling the fear and doing it anyway it will eventually subside - and people can't tell at all that I am completely dying inside. Yesterday I had a meeting and I felt so bad I really couldn't even work out where I was, I was just staring at the woman who said "you look really well at the moment!". I ended up admitting I was having a huge anxiety attack and actually after having told her it melted away. I really thought I was going to faint and be sick. But it showed that even when in the grips of sheer hell it can be impossible to tell.

Are you getting treatment for your anxiety? I have recently found some good books on Amazon that have been helpful. You don't deserve to feel like this, and should try to find a way so you can live your life.
  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I truly appreciate that you've taken the time to offer your help. Some of your comments are scary as hell. I don't think I can face having to appeal. I told my OH today that I NEED him to look into all this for me, because I really can't deal with it. I totally lost the plot last night and had the worst day ever yesterday because this stupid appointment letter arrived. The appointment is two weeks today and I don't know how I'm going to last that long. One thing I've decided is that my partner needs to speak to someone at the CAB. That seems to be mentioned a lot online. I also think I should maybe go and see my doctor to ask them to write to ASOS about a home visit.

Today I saw someone from the Mental Health Personality Disorder Provision and they're arranging for me to have some one on one appointments with a clinical psychologist. He seemed to feel that I have a Borderline Personality Disorder, something that has been mentioned before. He also said I have some OCD and Anxiety issues. One thing that did stike me is that although I've had sessions with at least 3 different people who I've been referred to recently I don't have any written reports from them. How would I go about getting this sort of thing? Would it be beneficial to give this kinda thing to the ASOS people? I've also been diagnosed with IBS in the past year and when stressed this has meant that during my previous temporary contract I was unable to work A LOT because of investigations and being in agony. It got to the point where work were happy to consider it a disability.

I can safely say I HATE all of this. The thought of having to go and almost beg for government money from ASOS is awful. I'm so embarrassed to go to the doctor and have to ask them to contact ASOS etc. I feel like people will think I'm faking it and I can truly say that I'm not (BTW paranoid and not trusting others is another issue that has been discussed at my appointment today). But people do fake it for the money and I think that gives some medicals a jaded view. I just want to get better and get some self esteem back through working.

I can understand you being nervous (heck I am for you after reading some of the posts on here).

But all you can do is control what you can - be yourself (no more and no less).

Try not to see it as a negative (there are loads of people with really positive experiences). Remember only the negative ones in the main are reported. There are good and bad workers in every profession and walk of life - but if you thought that way you'd never ring a taxi, or visit a GP or go to a restaurant. Your own experiences are what needs to guide you.

Take support from anyone you need and take it each step at a time, try no predict the future - just deal with each stage as and when it happens.

Please do pop in to ask advice if you feel you need it (many have been there) and to let us know how you got on.

    Didn't mean to worry you.

If it helps put your mind at rest a little, i can tell you i claim ESA for bipolar, have had 3 medicals and have been found unfit for work each time straight away, no appeal needed. So they do get it right sometimes.

Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on.
