Credit Card for people with bad credit

I went bankrupt in Dec 2008 and was released a year later. I am looking at getting back on the property market again in the next couple of years but to do this I will need to build improve my credit score.

I tried applying for a credit card (Capital One) for people with bad credit or who have been bankrupt for more than a year but still got rejected. Since i declared myself bankrupt I have never had a loan or credit card so how come I am still getting rejected for one of these credit cards? I have a mobile phone contract, gas/electric bills, sky bills and I have never missed a payment. I could understand if i was missing payments but im not. I know lenders are going to be uneasy lending to people like myself but why advertise is as a credit card for people with bad credit or been bankrupt for more than a year?

Does anyone know any credit card companies who would be likely to give someone like myself a credit card? Im not even asking for a large amount. Possibly £200 just to help build my credit history.

Regards

If I were you I'd try Vanquis as a starting point. The APR will be mind blowingly high, so ensure its cleared in full each month. Good luck :o

I'm not fussed about the charges because my plan will be to pay it off anyway. It's more to show that I am making regular payments.

    Appreciated

Yes, try Vanquis first. If they reject you, you'll be rejected everywhere.
