Well the answer to all this drop of a hat 'sickness' and not necessarily aime at the OP is to stop all the 'full pay' business,
Get them on 3 waiting days and SSP, the absence rate will drop dramatically.

That of course, I mean in any profession, That'll sort 'em.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Around here the NHS asks for a two year history of sickness abscence, with dates, before they will employ anyone.

I would definitely email them to say you've been off sick and forgot to mention it at interview due to nervousness. It will look even worse if you don't contact them, as they will see you as a liar on top of the sickness.

not directed at the op directly but I once worked with a girl whose only health problem was that she couldn't face coming back to work after a genuine short period of illness.

funnily enough when the time come for her wage to drop to half (it was 6 months full pay) she felt alot better and came back

Again not at OP but used to work for a charity that gave 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay sick from first day of work... needless to say may people became "sick" for 6-12 months and then left...

For the OP if it is bullying you need to report it. Current legislation means many places do not give personal references, just dates of employment and sick leave dates. 3 weeks is a long time (I have only 6 weeks offafter extensive spinal surgery), so you need to ensure some sort of paper trail as to why you have been off.

Finally, if you are going for a similar position can you ensure no bullying there?
