Benefit fraud investigators are governed by the the PACE rules, just like the Police. If you are interviewed under caution and that is tape recorded, you are entitled to get a copy of the tape. In fact they are supposed to inform you of that during the interview.

I think they meant that benefit fraud is an offence, not the taping of the interview. Benefit fraud investigation officers have the same rights as police officers when investigating fraud, and as such have warrant cards and are licensed to carry out a PACE interview. They are legally entitled to conduct a taped interview, but must first of all read your rights as required by PACE rules. Otherwise anything you DID say would be inadmissible in any subsequent legal action.

Definitely phone them. They have a habit of saying they did get in touch with you, when they didn't.

They've been trying to say me and my flatmate (female) are partners for years. Clearly in their eyes a member of each sex cannot, just be friends.

Being non-English does not help me, despite all the taxes I pay.

But definitely call, don't give them the chance to say you made no effort, because if anything goes wrong, THEY are never wrong......apparently
