I currently rent in St. Ives and are starting to look at buying. I know what you mean with Chatteris, there are some very nice houses at reasonable prices there but put off by other peoples views. I suppose there has to be a reason for the lower prices!

It depends what you want, your budget and what are absolute necessaries. There are likely to be compromises, I would love to live in St. Ives but may have to move out further. Ramsey is a nice village (first Eco Tesco's) and Abbey College (secondary) is a good school.

Ramsey you are more likely to go shopping in Peterborough, St. Ives you are more likely to go to Cambridge!

i can vouch for brampton. lived there for 3 and a half years (well, just next to it on the camp) it is a really nice little village, not much crime that i can think of, the nursery and school is nice, with the higher school in hinchingbrook. PLUS, the dragoon is a nice pub that does nice food aswell :)
  • Hi we relocated from southend in essex 6 years ago to a village called Doddington which is just in between chatteris and march and have never looked back. We are looking to move to a bigger house but i'm adamant I won't leave the village. It's a nice community without being in your pocket. The primary school is excellent - which is why we chose the village, secondary schools there is one in march and one in chatteris neither of which I like so have chosen to send my son to the Abbey in Ramsey as a lot of other children from the village go there and the bus picks up from the top of our road! Good luck in your search!
  • Hi! We currently live in Cambridge and my husband works at St Ivo School (mentioned above) as a teacher. It's a decent school - good with outstanding features in the last Ofsted and it gets very good results for a comprehensive (some of the best in the area, though Swavesey is even better). St Ives is not bad.

We're about to move to Godmanchester - 1.5 miles from Huntingdon and really pretty - good mix of period and new properties, two good/outstanding primary schools, and in the catchment for Hinchingbrooke School for secondary, which also has a good reputation. The village itself has good amenities (four pubs, two bakers, a butchers, a cafe, a couple of restaurants and take aways, a swimming pool) and has the river Ouse running through it with a lovely meadow, parks, etc.

Brampton is also lovely, though I don't know it as well.
