Helping a relative with financial affairs

Hi,

I'm hoping to get a process set up which stop my mum who lacks the mental capacity to make her own financial decisions on a full time basis.

I need to stop her opening any more credit cards/bank account overdrafts etc then just set up a cash account where can she spend money as she wishes with myself managing her main bank account.

I've tried to do some of my own reasearch and the best approach seems to be a lasting power of attorny though this seems a little heavy handed.

Anyone have experiance if this would work?

Many thanks
John

As far as I know getting PoA would be the only option. I've not heard of any other methods which could be employed.
