Asda Insurence cancellation costed £252?

Hi,
I bought asda insurance policy and cancelled it after 8 days (within 14 days) and today I received my refund and they deducted £252 from the original payment. This is ridiculous. How is it possible to deduct 1/3 price of the policy for 8 day insurance?
They have given me premium rate number that would cost me £1.02p/m to gain an explanation about this hefty charge.
Can someone please help me what to do about this?, any legal help I can get or something?
Thanks

Write to them with FORMAL COMPLAINT in big bold letters.
Ask for a breakdown of the costs and charges. Then take it from there.
I wonder if they are getting fed up of people buying insurance to get their car out of the pound or tax it then cancelling.

This policy is arranged by a company called Brightside. They will charge you a £75 fee for cancelling plus time on risk charges plus if you bought add on product such as legal cover, you will have to pay the full years premium.
They are notorious for their charges in situations like this. In future avoid!0 -
Complain to Adsa about this exhorbitant charge and request a breakdown. When you get the breakdown of the charges forward it together with a copy of your complaint letter to the Financial Ombudsman Service for a review. He would advise if the charge is reasonable. I have not tried it but the threat of it provided me with a good result.0
