Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Does anyone have any suggestions for 2 night hotel and ticket packages for this which don't cost the same as a week in Spain.

you must be able to get it cheaper than this though if you buy your own tickets and go to a B&B instead of a hotel.

Camp! lol not such a good idea as it will be freezing but even most b&b's will be fully booked, your better doing it months in advance, have you tried local travelodges etc? you can check online for dates for availability, also there is https://www.laterooms.co.uk i've used them a couple of times and they are quite reasonable.

  • Depending from where you are travelling. Many local papers are offering Edinburgh Tattoo trips as 'Readers Offers'.

ie From S wales with Diamond Holidays £139 pp for 3 days inc return coach travel, B&B and first evening meal, also includes the tatto ticket etc.

See if your area is revealed by a google search : readers offers edinburgh tattoo.

or try other such search critera or give your local rag a ring etc. Some good value offers are out there.

As a local from Edinburgh.............. the Tattoo tickets go on sale in December of the year before (this summers' went on sale Dec 2006) and sells out right away as travel companies snap them up.

Your best bet is going to be to get a package now as that's the only way to get a ticket unless you want to risk ebay (these only go on sale in August when they can get premium prices for them) or to queue at the Official Box Office in Market Street on the morning of the performance you want to go. This is no guarantee to get them though, it depends on any cancellations.

They don't even keep any back for local people (although they do half price dress rehearsal tickets and these go on sale a couple of weeks before).

I hope you get some !

Apart from the Tattoo you have the International Festival, the Fringe Festival, the Book Festival, the TV Festival, the Film Festival, the Blues Festival & the Arts Festival all happening in August in Edinburgh.

It gets rather busy and booking a package may be one of the CHEAPER ways of doing things unless you plan way ahead - ie accomodation in September the previous year & buying Tattoo tickets as soon as they become available

If you can get tickets somehow for the early evening performance of the Tattoo you might consider booking accomodation in Glasgow (don't laugh, people do do that) though it's an hour each way

the trouble with the reader's offers:
you end up staying miles away from edinburgh! we stayed miles away and basically were taken to edinburgh in the morning, dropped off and picked up in the evening after the tattoo.. we would have liked to have at least been able to get changed before we went to the tattoo...we felt so dirty..
