Just wanted a bit of advice as I was recently involved in my first accident after 5 years of driving.
I was approaching a traffic light controlled four way junction. Lights go green and traffic moves. As I'm the second car to go I can hear a siren but unable to see it. Crawling along as is the car in front. He spots the vehicle prior to me and slams on the brakes. I subsequently knock the back of his car at low speed.

Pulled around the corner. Doesn't appear to be any damage no obvious dent. A quick wipe removes what looked like a scratch. My front bumper is fine. Give him my details. He tells me doesn't think any repair needed but will ring me first if required.

I hear nothing then out of the blue his insurance company ring me about a claim.

Best way to proceed?

    Via your insurance company.

    You did tell them?

Did you let your insurance know? Never accept that'll be the end of it at the side of the road....

If you didn't inform them you need to pass this on now and get ready to be asked why you haven't let them know already. How long ago was the accident? did you take pictures? do you have any witness statements? You might find the back of his car is now stoved in and all four people in it have whiplash....

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I'm waiting to ring my insurance company as the system at head office is currently down.

Accident was two weeks ago. Didn't think to ring then as thought it wasn't going to come to anything.

Nobody else stopped so no witnesses. Was a busy junction in east London so maybe some CCTV at a push.
Thanks for the replies so far.

As others have said, put it in the hands with your insurer, give them the full facts, incl. there was no damage apparent to either vehicle and let them get on with it.

I know it's a bit late now but always take pictures after an accident.

Wait for the whiplash personal injury claim.
