From what you have said I think that you would do better to move back to your 3 bed terrace and squash in. Can't the children share rooms? Surely the baby can be in with you atm? Having grown up in a 3 bed terrace with 2 brothers and a sister I know it can be done even if not ideal.
From a health and safety pov it is seems to be a no brainer. In any case you do need to do something before winter and your little boy's chest problems get any worse.
Hope you can get something sorted out quickly and your son doesn't have to go into hospital again, poor little chap.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

It does seem odd that you would choose to stay in a house that is making your children ill rather than be slightly squashed in one that is healthier for them.0

Do you rent the terraced house out then? If so depending what your tenants contract is may delay things0
