Bonus payment after handing in notice
Comments

Have a look on this forum, there was a similar case in the last week or so.
Were you expecting a bonus payment in your July pay ?
If so, just ring payroll and ask if there has been an error.
At least you will then know what you are dealing with (eg. was it an error or has it been stopped - if so, by whom and why ?).
Although many will argue that a bonus is paid on performance and retention, I assume that the bonus criteria was performance only and as such in your position I would be disappointed if the payment was stopped or reduced because you have handed in your notice.0 -
Actually, in employment tribunals bonuses have been held to be part of wages. Even if technically discretionary the refusal to pay them has sometimes been overturned.
But it needs to be a situation where a bonus would normally be expected, is in some way quantifiable and where there is no clawback mechanism in your contract or employee handbook. Given you have a 'scheme' then you may qualify.
For example, this might apply if you hit targets that normally trigger a bonus, or other people hitting the same targets get bonuses and you do not.
Just google 'unlawful deduction of wages bonuses' to get lots of info.
But you have the hassle of a tribunal.0 -

The OP needs to find out what has happened first of all - this may just be a clerical error ? (fingers crossed ........).
If the bonus has been stoped then they need to understand why (with reference to the relevant company procedure) - calmly stating that the bonus relates to the period April to June (during which they presumably met/exceeded their targets to trigger the bonus).
As the OP is still working their notice, they can then make their own decision about what to do next
Re: tribunal, in reality it also depends on the amount. If the bonus is £50 then few would take it this far, however if the expected bonus was £10,000 then it is worth pursuing.0
