Any point in Iceland's bonus card?

I shop regularly at Iceland as it's local to me. They have a bonus card which you're supposed to have swiped every time you shop. If you don't have it they ask for your postcode, then read out the name of your road, and ask for your house number, for the rest of the queue to hear.
As far as I can see there's absolutely no benefits at all for the customer with this card - no loyalty points or whatever. All we seem to be doing is giving Iceland full details of our shopping habits week by week for no reason - at least you do get something back with Tesco points etc.
Or am I missing something?

I've been annoyed by their prying (asking for address if you don't have a card) before now but they don't really seem to have much I want to buy, anyway.0

My branch doesn't ask me for details if I don't have my card with me (most of the time as I don't see the point of it unless there's a promotion on)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

occassionally there is a promo on and again occassionally we get a money off voucher.
But our store wont home deliver without a bonus card???0 -

If they know what you want, then they can sell it to you...
But they don't need to actually know your address to work out their customer's shopping habits do they?
The only real purpose I can think of asking for it, is to determine thair catchment area so to speak.
Toys R Us do this too. I politely declined when they asked for my address. Nowt to do with them."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

It is so they can tailor any offers they send you in the post to your personal shopping history. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

But they haven't, and Iceland or Toys R Us don't do Express shops anyway. And even if they did, I still don't want them to know it."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

Then you don't give them your address information. They've not got a gun pointed at you.
Personally if I'm buying a product on a regular basis e.g. A bottle of ribiena. I quite like it if I receive a voucher giving me £1 off a bottle of ribiena.

I don't, and haven't thanks.
Don't get me wrong, I do do loyalty cards and have benefitted from the offers they generate; I just don't do them for retailers I only use occasionally. I don't regularly shop at Toys R Us (too expensive) and generally I can get whatever it is they are offering, cheaper elsewhere anyway. So I'm not interested in their offers cluttering up my letter box every five minutes on the offchance there might be something worth having. For me, it's about balance."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0
