May plan going to London in Sept. I will be traveling alone via train. Doesn't matter if the hotel has breakfast included in the price as can go to McDs for a double sausage McMuffin meal.

try the usual suspects - Travelodge, Premier Inn (both have sales on right now) and also Tune hotels (they now have 4 hotels in London).0

A few years back, stayed at one or two of the hotels in this group-
http://www.imperialhotels.co.uk/
They're all in the Russell Sq/Bloomsbury area, two stops down the Piccadilly line from King's Cross, and a few stops up from Leicester Sq, Tottenham Court Road, etc. Very convenient for theatre land, Oxford St shops etc. Most expensive is £90 per night, with others below your £85 benchmark
'Basic, but clean and functional" would sum them up.0 -
I usually stay at The Castleton Hotel in Paddington, 2 minutes walk from Paddington station, 5 minutes from Hyde Park and 10 minutes walk to Primark end of Oxford Street. Usually about £70 for a single room inc breakfast, compact but clean rooms, check out their website.0

Ive stopped in these hotels quite a few times , and agree for the money you get a good deal ( especially weekend breaks ) , the location is pretty good as well . They are very popular with overseas tourists , especially Americans I have noticedVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

I agree with this, I've stayed at easy hotel in earls court a couple of times and its very cheap, and feels safe and clean.
The rooms are tiny, and only have showers, but they are good quality for money you pay.0 -
Tune hotel , I've stayed atthe Liverpool street one. Though its not on Liverpool street, it's near to the station to get into city or walkable into city through the financial district. There's plenty off offer shops serving the workers, so your ok for food too.0

I vouch for Tune hotels too, the Liverpool street ones good, but the Westminster location is great. Literally a 5 min walk from Waterloo station (or across the road from Lambeth north tube), and 10 minute walk to Westminster bridge. Haven't tried the other 2 yet but I'll always stay in Tune now when I come to LondonWhats meant to be will always find its way...;)0
