What do people think about the Proton Impian?
Options
My car has failed its MOT and it's not worth getting it repaired so I am looking out for a new (used) one. My budget is a maximum of £2000 and I am hoping I can trade mine in for maybe £200.
In my local paper I came across this so just wondered what people thought of it.

It seems a nice car with a good mileage for its age. The short MOT is a worry, and it has some bumps and scrapes which I am not too concerned about. I have never bought from an independent dealer before. How likely are they to offer to put it through an MOT for me?
If anybody could let me know what they think I would be very grateful.

Hmm. 7 years old, 43k miles, bumps and scrapes?
Driven short journeys by a pensioner?
I wouldn't.0 -

If they were really confident it would pass an MOT, they would have given it another once 6 months had passed.
Or they put one on in Oct and its been sitting there rotting away ever since.
You can ask if they'll MOT it, but they would probably expect full price. Wouldn't pay more than £500 for it personally.
What do you have at the moment and what did it fail on?
Edit - if you want something different for norra lorra cash, try a later age daewoo nubira, daewoo/chevy lacetti, kia rio/shuma/mentor/magentis/cerrato0 -

Thanks for the advice. My car is an 04 Fiat Stilo. Failed on near- and off-side rubber bushes, front track rod end ball joint having excessive play and two tyres having cuts. There's a couple of other things they said they would fix for free too.
Looking nearly £500 to fix a car that is barely worth that. Supposed to be taking it to the garage tomorrow but so conflicted on what to do.0 -
wow. you cant afford £500 to fix a stilo? but if that proton went wrong you can easily bang a 1 infront of that £(1)500, i'd say your looking at money pit.
48k devided 7 is less than 7k miles a year since it was purchased wich to me is a run away sign especially if hardly anything on it has been touched unless its to scrape it through an MOT.
suspension is going to be a problem when you increase the miles daily than its used to, you may run into electrical problems such as sensors and lambda sensors, with damp cold air getting up the exhaust casuing condensation and corroding the sensor because this car has hardly ever moved off a drive!
i wouldnt want to pay more than £650 realisticly. its not worth £1,400 someones a bit optamistic they will find the blind mad man who will buy it for that price.0 -

OK, thanks. I will scrap the Proton idea then. I can afford to fix the Stilo, it's just that it's not much more than it's worth, so I am considering my options.
I didn't realise the lack of miles would cause such a problem. I guess you just assume low mileage = good.
Still have a week before the old MOT expires so I don't need to rush into a decision.0
