What type of insurance?!

Hi,
Am a bit confused, so would appreciate some of your thoughts!

Main residence insurance is a standard buildings/contents insurance.

Have remortgaged recently to buy a new property, main residence will be let out soon hopefully.

New house is still awaiting survey etc, so not ready to go as such.

Problem:Main residence home insurance is due 17/8/12. Do i take the renewal as someone still in the property, or would i take out landlord insurance,as the remortgage is a BTL? - so confused!

Thanks in advance!

What and when you do it will be dictated by the price/cost. Will your existing insurer allow you to switch to a Landlord policy? (Just buildings, as contents should be the responsibility of the renter).

If not, you want a short term policy to be ready to switch to a LL/Buildings at the relevant time, and not endure any high police change fees. Perhaps the firm offering the LL policy will agree to cover you as a resident owner until then?

Renew existing policy and change address to your new home when the time comes.

New landlords policy when you move out.

Wont the new address have different variables? i.e location, type of house etc?. Was worried would make the insurance void?!.

Existing one does not (esure), will ask the new insurers. Any decent L/L insurance recommendations out there pls let me know any of you!.

Try an aggregator site using dummy (but almost accurate) details and pick an insurer that gives the best price taking both addresses into account.

It is quite normal to move house and simply change address on existing policy. There is a small possibility that a particular insurer might cover one but not the other.

Try and find one that has nil/low charges for changes - or allows you to do changes online at no charge.
