I think I need some help, or at least my PC does.
Recently on startup my PSU has been making an awful racket, initially I thought it was the fan but it isnt. It goes off after a few minutes and then happily does its job. Am I right in thinking that a new PSU is the best move?
Also I believe my hard drive is on its way out, it keeps making a short high pitch sound, it could be the PSU I suppose but it also makes a sound which is best described as a skipping sound.
Any advice? Fortunately I have a £50 Amazon voucher, so thankfully it wont cost me if I do need new parts.
Help please!!!

URGENT that you back up any data.
New PSU to start with. If the hard drive is skipping and making noises then that is also suspect.0 -
Sounds like there both on there way out
best to backup and swap out especially if there over 5 years old0 -
They are both just over 2 years old and yes I do have 2 backups (cant be too careful).
So any recommendations, on Amazon of course!Old Faithful we roam the range together,

You need to ensure you get a PSU with the correct connectors for your MoBo so I recommend you speak to the friend that built it, as he should know what components he fitted. I'd also be inclined to get the make and serial number from the HDD and check warranty status on manufacturer's website (you don't usually need proof of purchase)How do I add a signature?0 -

The Hard Drive should still be in warranty, possibly the PSU too depending on brand.
Just checked on the western digital site, it appears that my drive is still in warranty till november :j. Any tips on what to do/not to do before I send it off?Old Faithful we roam the range together,

And another thing, the new PSU what do you recommend. I have a quad core motherboard and two sata hard drives powered by it, also two case fans.Old Faithful we roam the range together,

Western Digital support may want you to run their diagnostics on the drive to check for any fault codes. Go to their support section on their website, look up your drive and you should find some diagnostics (Data Lifeguard I think it is called).
Run it on your drive and the utility will check for faults. If it is faulty then just follow their RMA process on their website.
As for the fan noise I would recommend opening up your PC and listening carefully to make sure it is the PSU fan making the racket rather than a cooling fan or processor fan.0
