O2 penalising their NI customers - My Europe Extra ending

This is obviously a move by 02 to maximise their revenues from roaming before the new charging structure is introduced in 2014. Vote with your feet and move network.
We really are in a unique situation here with regards to roaming.0 -

Not really - how is it any different from a French person living on the French side of the German border and picking up a German signal? It's something that is going to affect all border regions.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I'm not sure what the situation is in France/Germany but here people going about their everyday personal life or business life are severely affected by the roaming charges. It's hard to take especially when the likes of O2 operate on both sides of the border. Seems like profiteering to me.
Also hard to take when every time I use the internet on my mobile I see a message apologising for the recent system meltdown: "Sorry we'll make it up to you".
Yeah thanks O2, I've been a loyal customer and you're forcing me to look elsewhere for my mobile provider and in the process pay more or accept a lessor service because as a new customer of whoever, I will lose my bargaining power. Yeah, I can tell you're sorry! That's some way to make it up to your customers in NI...
In the article that ballyblack linked to it says:
"The latest European roaming regulation places a responsibility on mobile operators to take reasonable steps to protect their customers from inadvertent roaming charges. Ofcom said it would write to operators to find out what actions they plan to meet the new obligation."
Wonder how O2, can answer this: is removing My Europe Extra a reasonable step? Answers on a postcard please...0 -
Why not just turn roaming off on your mobile? Or get the network operator to disable roaming? Then the phone will be forced to stay on a local signal or get no signal at all.0
