Single Supplement Query

My husband is currently serving in Afghan & I would love to take my daughter on holiday abroad somewhere either next month or during the October half term. I know they're more expensive then but she starts school in Sept & I work in a school.

I can't have the free child places because I would be taking her alone & I cant use the single travellers sites because I would be taking my daughter.

Are there any companies that cater for this or would I end up paying the same price for 2 adults for me & my daughter who is nearly 5?

Thank you.

As a lone parent, I have always had to pay adult price for my daughter, even when she was only 2!

In fairness if a person (even a smallish person) sits in a seat on a plane and sleeps in a bed in a hotel why should they have a discount.
A babe in arms who does not take up a seat on a plane and maybe sleeps in a carry cot under a parents bed OK.
The no single person supplement argument confuses me.
A single room is (usually) not half the size of a double twin/room. It needs the same amount of cleaning and bed making and bathroom cleaning. It has the same number of TV's, Phones, etc etc just one smaller or one less bed, so why do people expect to get it at half the price?

I don't expect anything, I was just asking the question.
It's the all inclusive package holidays I'm looking at. A 5 year old doesnt eat a fraction of the food an adult does nor drink the same amount etc & doesnt stay up eating & drinking into the night. Free child places are available with 2 paying adults so I was simply asking if they're are companys out there that cater on that understanding, otherwise I'd pay the same for just me & her as I would if it was me, her and my husband.

When we go visit family in South Africa, I don't expect any discounts for her because like you say, she's taking a seat on the plane, luggage allowance etc but with all inclusive holidays, it just seems a little different.

Thanks so much for your wonderful advice though, I will be sure to take it all on board.

I use this company for singles travel and they also cater for single parents. To be honest though, it's not cheap either way.

I have also argued the toss that hotels with all inclusive shouldn't charge a set room price if there is only one guest using it - as all food and drink is included in that room price that one person would not use two people's allowance so there should be a reduction. There never is though.

A child won't be eating or drinking as much as an adult but they will be eating and drinking something.

I agree with you about the all-inclusive bit. From my experience Thomson are the worst for charging full price for child upgrades on food but Thomas Cook usually charge 1/2 price for kids upgrades. Why not pick somewhere then contact the hotel direct and ask how much it is to upgrade when you get there. We went to Cyprus last year with First Choice and they wanted full price all-inclusive upgrade for our children (who were 2 & 3 at the time), so we booked self-catering and upgraded on arrival. the hotel was great as our 2 year old had a free upgrade and our 3 year old was half price. We saved £1500 by doing it that way.
