Problem with bt Internet and Windows Mail

Have been using Windows mail via my lappy (Windows 7) to manage my BT Internet emails.

All has been fine for a long time. Suddenly last week a box popped up asking for my user ID and password. Put this in but it asked for it again and then issued a message indicating that the POP3 server did not like my password - which has never changed.

Tried to access email via the BT/Yahoo hotmail system - this also did not like my password. Assuming some sort of corruption I managed to reset my password via the BT/yahoo web site. Having changed it I was then able to access my emails via the BT/Yahoo hotmail web based service.

However, I still cannot access via Windows Mail despite having changed the password on the 'servers' tab.

When I send and receive it still asks for my email ID and password. It seems to be sending emails out but will not download the 27 emails I know I have.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Maybe you should reinstal Windows Mail (all cookies and so on) that should help.

    It's an Outlook/windows mail issue...

Very annoying and very very common...

I used to have several e-mail accounts connected to my outlook, but got fed up retyping passwords, changing passwords etc I now only have 1...a BTINTERNET account..

Surprise surprise, I too began to suffer the pop up box again yesterday - would send no problem and would take an age to receive...

The easiest solution is to log onto yahoo, change your password and then remove the account from outlook/windows mail and then re-add it with the new password..this should solve the issue

There is no need to re-install outlook/windows mail - it is simply an annoying, repetitive issue that keeps arising (microsoft appear unwilling or unable to rectify !!)

Thanks smgreen - in fact this is exactly what I did in the end and it solved the problem. I am assuming that the settings on the Windows Mail account had been corrupted in some way......
