car help

I know nothing about cars, looking for a small car, low insurance and low road tax, may buy new or a car thats a few years old, which makes should I investigate? cheers

Comments

  • nearly new i would suggest, takes the hassle of extra fee's of registering the car and paying top price and leaving the forecourt knowing you just stripped a few grand of its value off there and then, then first years depreciation costs.

    whats your criteria.

    kids?

    long regular trips,

    short weekly runs?

how small are we talking, fiat 500 small or for focus small?

We had a little Toyota Aygo, solid little thing, I always felt safe in it, low tax too and good on fuel.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Find someone who knows something about cars, and take him or her with you. Whatever you do, don't go off buying a car when you know nothing about them - you will be just what a devious/unsavoury car dealer prays for ever day.

  • something with a long warranty so KIA (7yrs from new or used approved from kia dealer, hyundai with 5 years from new or approved used from a dealer, but the hang up is having it dealer serviced or having a vat registered garage (or manufacturer approved garaged scheme) using dealer parts to save labor costs.

i wouldnt buy a small diesel in your case stay to petrol.

i you have no knowledge of vehicles, then research your car make and model in owners forums such as passion ford forums if you were to think to buy a ford focus. alternataively ask back in here your thread.

the kia is a nipppy little thing and good on fuel, so is the cee'd, i10 are not bad either.

but sid down make a list of all the manufacturers you can and visit their websites, look at all the small cars and take thier stated MPG with a pinch of salt these are not real world MPG figures, but CO2 output is what youll be looking at this will determin how much tax you pay.

then, start hunting taking along a friends that knows a thing or two about cars and purchasing new or nearly new cars, make note of reg numbers, and then start running your insurance quotes.

£5500 for a new Panda (last time I looked I thought they were pre reg but sill a good deal for a solid wee car). 1.2 Fire engine which is non-interference if the cambelt goes which is always a bonus.

I bet when you call them for £5500 panda they will be sold out but i am sure they will offer you somehting similar for more £s.
It seems that sole purpose of these low price advertised cars is to attract customers!!

Perhaps, but the they won't have much else to offer since all they deal in is Fiat and the 500 and the new Panda are around £10k.
