Created to help support emerging talent, Burlesque Idol is a high energy and deliciously entertaining evening, jam packed with talent, humour and audience participation. Founded by Tempest Rose and Lola LaBelle in 2010 it has been running in London's West End for over six years, and has grown to become the biggest competition of its kind in the world - with 2016 ushering in not one, but three national tours across Australia, the USA, and the UK respectively.

Every show features a lineup of the region's top rising talent, a panel of international star judges, and the chance for every audience member to vote for who they want to see make it to the top - winning over £500 in prizes and the chance to compete in the Grand Finale at London's Hippodrome Casino. Snakes and Giants is a two-hander, combining storytelling, spoken word and song. It’s an elegant and poetic piece, which knits mythic elements with a contemporary story of love and belonging. There’s an intricacy and delicacy to the writing. Images of the landscape – old stone, storm clouds and cliff edges – combine with domestic details as one woman describes the ending of a relationship, the crumbling of things that were once solid, while the other speaks of old modes of worship.

The Stage


The piece is supremely beautiful, in both its performance and in its music. Two charismatic performances as well as soaring and beautiful musicality... a show that is endlessly charming.
