Bring back ELGAR!
Land of Hope & Glory etc.
HE would not have stood for the Euro0 -
I think they look more like Scottish notes than Euros. Plus, they have a Scotsman(Adam Smith) on the back. Long live Chancellor Brown(a Scot!!!).
I wouldn't mind so much about the Scottish element if they didn't have their own banknotes.0 -
I must be the only person on this thread that has not seen one yet, im gonna try and get one from the bank tommorrow.
Nope, I've not seen one either, other than the pic a few posts above! Can't wait to get my hands on one to find out what all the fuss is about though! Anyone want to donate??

I asked my son to go to the ATM for me while I was in a shop,
and when he came back he said,
mum I don't think you can use these here,
I think they gave me euro's
it was quite funny,
I said
oh are they the new 20 note's,
you should have seen the look of relief on my son's face,
quite funny
he went mad when I said I forgot to tell him that some new one's were coming out,
wish it had been 1st april
it would have made a great aprils fool

I was really shocked when on the first day it came out my store received loads. I remembered when the new £2 came out and it took forever to see one!!!
"Current £20 notes, featuring English composer Edward Elgar, will be phased out over the coming two to three years."

Most banks now have a leaflet saying this and giving information on the EIGHT ways to check it...I'm sorry, but i have better things to do with my time then check one note 8 blooming times. Interesting about the euro referances that are being repeated though. They remind me more of australian money!!!

i swapped one with my dad a day after they came out... but yet to go to bank and get one myself...
much prefer the older ones... they look more modern (with the £20 font style..)
but at the end of the day its cash... and soon we will treat them like the old ones and not be bothered about what they look like..
question? does anyone on here keep new notes ? interesting to see if anyone will keep a £20 note hidden away.. id spend it...
ive never seen a £50 in the flesh ever! but then im only 20...0 -

At some point the BoE will announce that old notes won't be accepted at high-street banks at some time in the future, then you'll probably have a year or two where your bank will "send them off" (so a delay in crediting your account).
Hogwash, you can take any BoE issued note to the bank and they will change it for face value ie series D £20 for a series E or the new series F £20.
We still get the ocassional £1 note brought in and have swopped a 10/- note only a few years ago. Although with the much older notes depending upon their condition it might be worth trying to sell them to a bank note dealer instead.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang

Unfortunately not - many (if not most) high street banks stopped taking old-style fivers around 2004. Some banks may choose to service profitable business accounts (and maybe charge extra fo the priviledge), but I wouldn't advise walking in off the street with a pocketful expecting a swap.
The BoE can remove "legal tender" status from any series/design (eg the pre-2001/2 fiver) as they deem fit. BoE banknote faq http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/about/faqs.htm0 -
