Capitol One Rebates

in Credit cards
I have a Capitol One Circle Card suggested by Martin many months ago. At first I received a 1% rebate. Several months ago this was reduced by Capitol One to 0.5% for no reason given. My card is paid off in full each month by d/d and I spend around £6000 plus per year. Recently I have been made aware by non other than my son that he is getting the full 1% rebate who spends a similar amount and similarly pays by d/d in full each month. When I rang Capitol they tell me that my name was selected by random amongst many others and the rebate was reduced. They have stated to me that this was for no other reason than my number being called up. I am now looking at Amex Platinum but have other forum members come across this problem?

Yes,
The same happened to most Circle Rebate owners, including myself.
I suggest that you check out the Citi Platinum card which has recently introducted a 1% cashback rate. Details here.
The Amex card is OK but lots of places do not accept it, so bear this in mind.Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)0 -
Think yourself lucky, I applied for a cashback card and it was accepted. When I asked for the rebate they told me I was never sent a cashback credit card, even though it was accepted over the phone they switched it and sent me a different one, but that was okay as they say it was in the small print that they may switch the card without telling me.
Capital One are scammers, they should be avoided.
Time to start looking for something else.0 -
Don't know if I should mention this or whether I'm tempting fate, but they're actually giving me 2% cashback (and have been doing so for about 13 months now)....suffice to say all my expenditure goes on the Capital One (Platinum) card...I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0

Capital One informed me that all Platinum rebate cards have no grace period, are you paying Purchase Interest every month?0 -
I pay off in full every month.
Interest works as per all my other credit cards, ie only kicks in should I not pay in full by the "due by" date (ie anything between 3 & 7 weeks interest free) - assume that's what you mean by "grace period"?
I have had the card for a few years - it was dormant until they made this offer to me, but obviously very busy since then... Could well be that the terms you refer to are for newly issued Platinums?I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0
