Just a heads up OP - some people find that Cleanse and Polish makes their skin dry. The temperature of the water that you're using might be making your skin dry too. Perhaps try the c&p with cooler water. C&p does contain parabens which could be making your skin dry. Everyone's different. I can't use it at all.

I have the opposite problem of oily skin so cannot personally suggest an alternative cleanser. Aldi I'm told, is good though for good products which don't cost the earth and my mate who has dry skin likes this combo - http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=97 - Cleanser
    http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=35 - Face cream

You can purchase tester pots for £4.00 to see if you like it: http://www.handmadenaturals.co.uk/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=37

Using products with fewer or no 'nasties' might help.

  • Clarins Hydraquench. Does the job brilliantly - and a chat with the counter lady usually comes up with a whole bag of samples of cleansers, eye creams, face oils and the like.

Which reminds me, I'm due up for a counter visit as I'm out of freebies now....

Hi I just thought I would mention https://www.angelalangford.com she does organic natural skincare. If you answer a few questions online she will send you some samples for the cost of postage. (£4.50)

She does a lovely balm to use at night, you dont wake up with tight skin. I love her stuff, and it comes nicely packaged with clear instructions.:T

I have also started using Bobbi Brown BB cream, and that is doing a great job in the daytime.

Your body won't hold water without the right balance of essential fatty acids, carbs and protein in your diet. Are you getting enough long chain omega-3s from oily fish, ideally a portion or a supplement every day? Are you eating seven to nine portions of fruit and veggies each day? What is your intake of salt, white/ refined carbs, sugar and caffeine like?

The lipids found naturally in the skin barrier are ceramides, cholesterol and saturated fatty acids stearic and palmitic acids. These are NOT the lipids found in most plant oils - consider a product that includes medical grade lanolin (hypoallergenic), lecithin or West African shea butter. Lactic acid and niacinamide have been proven to encourage ceramide production in the skin.

If you are moisturising over the top of an occlusive oil the moisturiser cannot penetrate the skin and do any good. What are the active ingredients of your sunscreen, are they physical (zinc, titanium) or chemical? Chemical must be applied to clean bare skin to be effective. How much does your skin get wetted, do you take long-ish showers and soak your face? This can flush out the skin's natural moisturising factors, including urea,so dehydrating the skin. Lactic acid and niacinamide have been proven to boost ceramide production.

Possible products include Eucerin 5% urea replenishing night cream (urea, ceramides), Weleda baby calendula face cream (lanolin, too rich for day), Myfawnie KinNiaNag serum (lecithin, niacinamide). The last one is from a tiny company in the US, but is amazingly effective at strengthening the skin barrier against dehydration, lasts ages and the ingredients are proven in anti-ageing.

Balance me facial oil - great whether or not you have oily skin. available from their website, or from natrissimo website. You can also include samples of other moisturisers etc with your order. It's also free of all the nasties - parabens, mineral oil etc

I have very dry and sensitive skin and I too have had this problem. I have tried all kinds of stuff and lived up to my user name as I am willing to have a go with most things! ( I am even alergic to Clarins "Sensitive" range!!)
I currently use Flexitol facial oil, soak in, then add Simple night cream.
If I need more, I use "Honey treatment cream" ( from Beauty Naturals, great products and fab service and even FREE second class postage).
The Honey treatment cream is very, very thick and you can leave it on and then rinse off, or as I do and massage it well in, put a hot damp face cloth on top ( to sort of liquidise it a bit and get it to sink in) when you wake up in the morning you will have very plump soft skin:) 100 ml pot is £16
I always end up going back to Beauty Naturals no matter what I else I try out there in retail world, they do smaller cheaper trial sized pots of most things for you to try too ( also good for travel).

Hi all , I really appreciate you all taking the time to answer and will try and get back to you all .. I am in the USA just now ( have been for ten days or so) and won't be back for a few weeks yet ( roughly)

Whilst at the airport I tried a clinique hydra moisturizer it reacted with my skin so that's another one knocked off the list

I went to sephora ( a beauty shop in the USA) they tried to get me to buy perricone ... I can't afford perricone so that's outa the window

I quickly skimmed and noticed someone mention nutrition ... Now this is something I hold very dear to my heart and try to get right ( but fully understand I have so much to still learn )

I no longer drink coffee but I also don't eat fish ( can't really remember anymore as I am on. A Phone stuck in a hotel room trying to read and answer this

I do think that it could possibly be Liz eagles c&p as I use that and never seemed to have this really bad skin before ... But my skin was very greasy and I has terrible spots and acne then t
... The Liz earle helped clear that right up ... For the first time in Years I have actually has some time without spots

Will come back with more as I remember / get time / get access to the Internet :)

Hi there - I've been meaning to respond to this for days as I have exactly the same problem!
My skin is combination, so oily down the middle and dry everywhere else, but I've not been able to find a moisturiser to sort out the dry bits.

I feel like I've tried everything, including clinique's moisture-surge, super-hydrating masks (leaving them on all night at times for maximum benefit as per beauty counter instructions...), clarins stuff, aldi, no7, etc etc. Each time I go for a facial (either one I pay for or a complementary one) they comment on how dehydrated my skin is.

For a while I tried facial oil as well as moisturiser, and while it seemed to work initially, I'm not sure it still does.

I've just switched to using a serum from Origins (this one) before any old moisturiser (I'm taking to opportunity to use up all the old ones I bought!) and so far, so good. It does seem to be doing the trick - a small bit over the dry bits, then a general moisturiser everywhere. I honestly think my skin is much better as a result.

You might even be able to get it cheaper if you're in the US;)
